Top plate removed, showing flexible circuit board. To get this pate off a front plate had to be removed also.
Underside of top plate.
Rear of camera with top plate off, showing RF, etc. Behind the blue wire from the hot-shoe, one can see a tall silver screw sticking up; this is the vertical RF adjustment, accessible from the intact camera with the removal of just the hot shoe plate. To the left of this screw, not seen in this view, are 2 other adjustment screws, a left one for horizantal adjustment, and a middle one which is adjusted for image clarity.
The silver screw in the center of the image (on the left side of the RF as seen from behind) moves an eccentric which adjusts the baseline of the RF. This screw cannot be accessed from the intact camera, and was lacquered in place at the factory; on this particular R-D1, it had been originally set wrong. This screw is adjusted for the 1 meter images, whereas the left screw of the 3 under the hot show is adjusted for infinity.
DAG placed an M6 RF above the R-D1's, to show how short the RF base is on the R-D1 in comparison. Note also the front panel removal which is necessary to do the full RF adjustments.
Here is a IIIg RF versus the R-D1's. They are about the same length, but the IIIg's imageis magnified, and the R-D1's in 1:1.
