Historical Documentation

A special interest is in the preservation of historical documents in digital form. Examples include: a collection of photographes by Reuben Greene; photographs from the Moretown, Vermont Historical Society; and family records.

DIGITAL ARCHIVES

With the advent of digital imaging, it is possible to keep original flat art work, photographs and text documents (including books and scrapbooks) safely stored while displaying excellent digital copies.

Digital files are additional archives and are also used to print high quality archival reproductions. The same files can be used to prepare web pages, brochures, displays, and informational CD's and DVD's. Thus digital archiving provides new routes for sharing information.

An example of our collaboration in such a project (the Reuben Greene Photograph Collection) follows, and a separate page provides a closer look at our approach

Over 1,300 PHOTOGRAPHS OF REUBEN GREENE, a North Bennington, VT photographer, were discovered years after his death. Only a handful of negatives remained. The images were a wonderful chronicle of Vermont life in the mid-1900's. The Fund for North Bennington arranged for Mark Case, an archivist, to to catalog all the images and to place all, except a few already framed prints, in protective cases. Each print and negative was digitized by ImageRe: Digital Works. The digital copies were labeled and indexed to the original catalog and stored on archival quality CD's. It is now possible to review all the images, and to search for images of particular persons or places based on key words given by the archivist. More about this project can be found on The Fund for North Bennington web site.

DIGITAL RESTORATION AND REPRODUCTION

Show those old images as they would have looked when they were new. Digital restoration can make them shine. Images can be printed on archival quality paper with archival inks, or by photographic processing.

DIGITAL TIMELINES

Towns and states may take responsibility for maintaining their timelines. ImageRe: At the request of the Moretown, VT Historical Society, images that had been borrowed from residents were digitized and stored on CDS . Follow this link to see a portion of the MORETOWN, VT TIME LINE.

Family heirlooms, photos, stories, letters, drawings, jokes - every family has a timeline. Follow this link to see portions of the PHILIPPI FAMILY TIMELINE.

ImageRe: Digital Works can organize a time line for you. This printed history can be as simple or as elaborate as you like. It is important that your story be told. The advantages of getting the document layout and printing handled by ImageRe: include:

1. The finished document will look professional. The text will be well organized and easy to read. The text and images will flow as they would in a published book.

2. You will receive an exact draft copy for review before the finalization.

3. Many identical copies of the history can be printed.

4. You can easily update your history as needed.

5. The "original" digital document will be preserved, so more copies can always be produced.
